The Full Testimony
Testimony of
Shani Kiniso
Shani Kiniso is from Kibbutz Be'eri, where most of his family lives. When the siren sounded, he was sleeping with his partner, Roni, in the safe room in his apartment in the Young Adults neighborhood. Over the next few hours, they locked themselves in silence in the safe room. Through the internal messaging network "Local," they received real-time news about the difficult situations of his parents, sister, grandmother, and many others, including instances of murder, house fires, and rescues. Thanks to his permission to write online, he became a center for information transfer between kibbutz members, which gave him a certain sense of control and purpose amidst the terror and the experience of helplessness. In the afternoon, he and his partner were evacuated on the first bus and drove along a dangerous route exposed to gunfire, feeling terrified. Along the way, they encountered harsh sights, including dead bodies of terrorists and civilians, devastation, and charred cars. His parents, who were later evacuated in a separate vehicle, were attacked by terrorists along the way but survived.
