The Full Testimony

Testimony of

Channa Perri

Channa, age 71, was abducted from her home in Nirim early that morning, along with her son Nadav, both were in a medically complex condition. Channah describes their time in the tunnels: hours of walking through hot, damp, and filthy tunnels. Food was scarce and moldy, the mattresses wet and foul-smelling, the light constantly on. Nadav shielded her with his body. The captors were frightening, but not verbally or physically violent, though she fears this may have changed after the women were released. Nadav did not believe he would survive. Hamas was prepared for two weeks, and after that let the hostages starve. Her release came as a surprise, with no proper farewell to Nadav. Only upon returning was the full extent of the disaster revealed to her. The hostages who had been with her were later moved elsewhere and killed, probably in an IDF strike. Both her sons, Roi and Nadav, were murdered by Hamas. She is determined to hang on for the sake of her grandchildren but feels empty inside. She will not return home to Nirim. Her heart is shattered.
