Ahinoam and her cousin spent the weekend at their grandmother’s in the kibbutz. On Saturday morning, what initially seemed like a ‘routine’ Red Alert was followed by reports of terrorists who infiltrated the kibbutz. The three got into the safe room but the door wouldn't lock. Minutes later, the force of a bomb exploding nearby, caused the room’s door to lock. When terrorists entered the house they tried to open the door, while Ahinoam’s grandmother kept holding on to it, fighting off the terrorists who returned three more times, armed, and tried to break in, even shooting at it. The grandmother kept gripping the handle during the long hours they spent inside the safe room, and prevented the terrorists from getting in. After eight hours, a police rescue force arrived and evacuated the three to the kibbutz war room
