The Full Testimony
Testimony of
Avi Firuz
Avi Firuz, 62, lives with his wife, Shantal, in Netiv Ha'asara. On Saturday morning, they woke up to the sounds of explosions, gunfire, and shouting in Arabic. His son, who phoned from Portugal, reported that terrorists had infiltrated, and they locked themselves in the safe room with a cast-iron pan, knives, and an axe. They spent an entire day in the safe room without food, water, and electricity and with sporadic communication, wondering where the army was. Avi, who is shell-shocked, finds it challenging to comprehend the news of the murder of his neighbor Gilad Kfir, his friend Gil Ta'asa, and his son Or, as well as his neighbors Shlomi and Ayelet Molcho, whose cats and dogs the terrorists had murdered. In the evening, soldiers came to inspect and scour the house, and then Avi and Shantal left in their car via the escape road. On Route 4, they had to make their way through masses of burned cars, overturned jeeps, and bodies. After an arduous drive, they arrived at the hotel at Ma'ale Ha'chamisha, where they remain to this day.
