Testimony of

Ayal Young

A long, heavy barrage of missiles, heard in the religious kibbutz Alumim, woke Ayal Young and his wife Reut at 6:30 AM. Shortly after they shut themselves up with their four young children in the safe room, Eyal realized that terrorists had infiltrated the kibbutz. He took his personal weapon and joined his friends in the alert squad. There were signs of gunfire and grenades in the cowshed, workers from Nepal were found dead and wounded nearby, and a medic was called to the scene. They took walkie-talkies, and the commander of the alert squad divided them into pairs. With the help of nearby Border Police they began to patrol the kibbutz houses and check on the residents. At some point, Eyal noticed about twenty terrorists approaching the kibbutz fence. Seconds after he succeeded in eliminating a terrorist who tried to kill him, he was shot and seriously wounded by another terrorist. Time passed before he was rescued under fire to the kibbutz nurse's house, and then transferred on a dangerous trip to Soroka Hospital. Emergency surgery saved his life.
