Testimony of

Baruch Cohen

On Saturday morning, Baruch Cohen heard what he calls "music" - continuous and heavy fire over the entire area. Baruch, the civil-military security co-ordinator of Kibbutz Magen, realized that the scenario he had feared for years might be coming true. He immediately called the emergency squad members and went out to do what he was trained to do in the face of an enemy - charge. He raced in his car towards the terrorists who were trying to breach the kibbutz fence and was shot and wounded. His leg was injured, and he was rescued under fire. Baruch went through two resuscitations, and his leg was amputated. Avi Fleischer, a member of the emergency department who was evacuated with him, died in the helicopter on the way to the hospital. "I can't talk about me without talking about us," he says, describing the heroism of the members of the emergency squad, who, for seven hours, stood firm against dozens of terrorists and saved an entire kibbutz.
