On Saturday morning, Broria Karni Hadas, her teenage children and the dogs locked themselves in the safe room of their home in Kibbutz Kerem Shalom. The red alerts were also accompanied by the sounds of small arms fire. While chatting on WhatsApp with good family friends from Kibbutz Holit, they lost contact, and then they discovered to their dismay that the parents had been murdered in their home while another son was left injured in the safe room with the bodies of his parents. Broria and her son Rodad tried to help from afar, debating whether and to whom to tell about their murdered friends. In the evening it turned out that friends had also been murdered in Kerem Shalom. The family spent the night and the next day at home, the mobile communication that was clear, and had not yet grasped the size and severity of the event. They, tried to return to normality, even went out to the warehouse and cooked in the kitchen. Only at noon on Sunday did they realize that there were still terrorists in the kibbutz. From the hotel in Eilat to which they were evacuated on the first night, Broria is trying to digest what she went through, to help the members of her beloved community and herself, to convey optimism and hope for a better future.
