The Full Testimony
Testimony of
Dafna Yaron
On Saturday morning, in Kibbutz Kfar Aza, sirens and explosions began. Dafna, her husband Hadar, their two daughters, Gali (4) and Mika (10 months), and their dog, Janice, some milk and a packet of cookies, entered the safe room, Gali's room. They realized that the window in the safe room wouldn't lock, nor would the door. Messages started coming in, and gunfire could be heard very close to the safe room. They were trapped in the safe room for long hours. "I remember feeling, why isn't anyone coming? Why aren't they rescuing us? Why is there no army?" Only in the middle of the night did they hear military words spoken in Hebrew inside the house and realize they were being rescued. The soldiers gathered them with other families and Hadar's parents, and they all left as a group together, on foot, through the kibbutz, seeing the destruction around them. After a long night, they were evacuated to safety.
