Idan went to the party with his wife Moran and her good friend Liron. The three of them went to help friends run food stalls. On Saturday at dawn, policemen ordered them to pack up due to red alert warnings. Idan, Moran, and Liron started driving but got caught in a traffic jam and heard gunfire. They turned around and hid behind a bar counter. Idan told Moran and Liron to start running and not to split up. He stayed back to help some people who were injured. When the gunfire got closer, he started running with the people with whom he was hiding. When they stopped to rest, a shoulder-fired missile was fired their way. Idan went flying, and after he landed, he began to run again until he reached an open field and eventually reached the police force, which helped him escape to the Ofakim Police Station.
