Testimony of
Nurit Fiorentino
On Saturday morning, with the start of the alarms and explosions, Nurit and her husband Yehuda entered their safe room. Nurit was worried about her daughter Yifat, who, together with her family, was closed in the safe room in the kibbutz. Also, she worried about her son, Ilan, the kibbutz civil-military (security) coordinator, who had gone to fight and left his wife, Sharon, and his daughters in their home. From correspondence with friends from Be'eri and Kfar Gaza, Nurit understands that the attack is on all the kibbutzim in the Gaza Envelope. Nurit and Yehuda are still in the safe room when they hear the fighting outside. At noon, all communication cuts off, and they remain worried about what is happening to their children and grandchildren in the kibbutz. At night, Israeli forces enter the house. Nurit and Yehuda do not open the door until they are convinced it is the IDF. The evacuation is carried out under fire in a military vehicle. They find out that Ilan is missing. Only after four days it was announced that he was killed in an attack. Ilan Fiorentino, of blessed memory, the military security coordinator of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, went out to fight dozens of terrorists, saved many of the kibbutz members, and was killed in battle on the kibbutz where he grew up.
