The Full Testimony
Testimony of
Rafi Hirschfeld
At 6:30 a.m. Saturday, in Nahal Oz, Rafi, his wife, and his granddaughter entered the safe room. They sat there until 10:30 p.m. At 10:00, all communications fell, so they didn't know what was happening around them or how their family in the kibbutz was doing. The terrorists did damage to their house but did not enter the safe room. Rafi, who is not religious, emphasizes the luck that was on their side in various aspects, such as, for example, that the safe room had furniture and the door could be blocked and not held, that they were among the first to leave and were able to pack clothes, that in a short time, Mishmar Ha'emek was prepared to take in an entire kibbutz. He predicts that the Nahal Oz community will be able to recover, and his heart aches for the kibbutzim that were severely damaged and whose futures are uncertain. Although he is not religious, on the way to Mishmar HaEmek, Rafi, for the first time, said the "blessing for the reward" - to say thank you for being alive.
