The Full Testimony

Testimony of

Shuki Joshua Edri

Shuki Edri is single; he has rented a house in Kibbutz Zikim. On Shabbat morning, he went into the safe room, listening to the unfamiliar sound of gunshots and trying to identify their source. When he understood there was a terrorist infiltration, he was afraid and stayed in silence and darkness. He checked all possible hiding places in his house and yard. Shuki was not informed when the kibbutz residents were evacuated, so he remained for over three days without realizing that he was alone. When he asked for weapons to join the kibbutz defense, he was told there were no weapons. Finally, he dared to go on his own to the Yearim Hotel. He felt traumatized. "The incident was chilling... especially because of the smell in the air... We never smelled anything like this before. It was the smell of war, the smell of death, the smell of hell."
