The Full Testimony
Testimony of
Yehezkel Shahani
Yehezkel had only recently gone back to his apartment on the kibbutz, after being in the hospital for eight months with cancer. Then the war broke out. He grabbed his gun and ran to help the wife of the military security coordinator, his close friend. Her home had been invaded by terrorists. But on the way, the special patrol forces met him and ordered him to hide. He was in the safe room for 17 hours, with his dog, constantly watching the updates in his WhatsApp groups. He knew, in real time who had been killed, and made a video will. Now, at his parents' home in Ofakim, he is picking up the pieces and dreams of returning to the kibbutz. He admits that he sleeps in the living room with his loaded gun, because he no longer has any sense of security.
